Costa Rica, The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the monopoly provider of wireless services in Costa Rica, will switch off its legacy TDMA network today, despite the platform still registering some 9,000 users. Customers have been given a choice of switching to ICE's 2G or 3G networks, on either a pre-paid or post-paid basis.

Telefonica (Spain) and Mexico (America Movil) have secured licenses from SUTEL in Costa Rica. The two operators will become the first private firms to offer mobile services in the Costa Rican wireless market.
