Nigeria 5GHz band rollout
Nigeria, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a new set of guidelines for the deployment of wireless broadband services in rural and urban areas of the country on the 5.2-5.9 GHz band. The 5.47-5.725 GHz band shall be licensable, while the 5.25-5.35 GHz and 5.725-5.875GHz bands shall be license exempt.

FCC spectrum crisis overstated?
USA, in a study from the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), in is shown that insufficient analysis and reliance on faulty information in the formation of the FCC National Broadband Plan has led to the overstated assumption of a nationwide spectrum "crisis". The paper cautions that using flawed data to address the capacity crunch affecting only a handful of cities will lead to inadequate solutions. The study is calling for a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of the issue that is not based on preconceived assumptions.

GSMA Calls on South Africa to Release LTE Radio Spectrum
South Africa, Responsible spectrum management and reduction of administrative barriers to network expansion will be key enablers of mobile broadband in South Africa, according to Analysys Mason's latest findings published in a report for the GSMA. The GSMA commissioned Analysis Mason to look at the impact of mobile broadband on the South African economy. The report forecasts that mobile broadband and related industries will generate 1.8 percent of South Africa's GDP (ZAR 72 billion) and as many as 28,000 jobs by 2015, highlighting the vital contribution of this sector to the country's growth.
